SHETLAND ANALYTICAL SERVICES BECOMES EMPLOYEE OWNED

Shetland Analytical Services has announced that it has become an Employee Owned Trust (EOT) – a significant step in the company’s continued growth and long-term commitment to both staff and clients.

The move to employee ownership means the business is now owned on behalf of its employees. The company has confirmed that its management structure will remain unchanged, with managing director Steven Laidlaw continuing to lead the business.

Formerly known as SSQC, the company rebranded to Shetland Analytical Services last year, to reflect the breadth of its specialist microbiology, chemistry, and water quality testing services. Alongside the rebrand, the business grew its laboratory team by 30 per cent to meet rising demand, with the recruitment of two laboratory technicians, two analysts, and a laboratory assistant.

Steven Laidlaw said: “Becoming an employee-owned business is a really positive step for Shetland Analytical Services. Our people are central to our success, and employee ownership recognises the skill, commitment, and professionalism they bring to the business every day.

“Importantly, this change does not affect how the company is managed or how we operate. It strengthens what we already do, while ensuring the business remains independent, resilient and focused on long-term quality and service.”

Shetland Analytical Services technical/quality manager, Jenny Blyth said: “Employee ownership means that we are fully invested in the long-term future of the company. It protects the culture we’ve built, keeps the business rooted in Shetland, and allows us to keep focusing on delivering consistently high standards for our clients.”

Shetland Analytical Services continues to invest in specialist expertise and high-quality laboratory facilities, supporting skilled employment in Shetland while delivering reliable, timely analytical services to a growing client base.
